Biography

Guido Grosse
Research Assistant Professor
Remote Sensing, GIS, Permafrost
UAF Geophysical Institute

"I think I can say that I always wanted to be a scientist and I'm glad to be one," says Grosse. "Studying geology is a good way to satisfy my goals to explore things related to the Earth and figure out how things work. I don't think I would change a thing."

Grosse has many research interests; most of his work involves causes, impacts, and feedbacks of permafrost degradation. He also researches remote sensing of periglacial landscapes, carbon cycle dynamics in permafrost regions, spatial analysis of periglacial geomorphology, palaeo-environmental reconstruction from permafrost deposits, and Martian permafrost and periglacial geomorphology.

Before working at UAF, Grosse worked and studied in Germany, Croatia, Russia, and Scotland.
